BIRMINGHAM – When the U.S. women’s national soccer team visited Legion Field last Sunday, the game was like any other friendly for most of the team’s players.

Another city in front of thousands of adoring fans in a game that ultimately resulted in a win.

Yet, for at least one player, though, it was also something of a homecoming on top of all that.

Kristy Curry has coached 474 games at three schools across three conferences over the past 15 seasons. She has faced 137 schools in that span from 28 different conferences, more than a third of all Division I basketball teams.

Among the teams she hasn’t faced? Alabama’s next opponent, the Auburn Tigers.

Tonight, that changes as Curry, the first-year women’s basketball coach at the University of Alabama, takes on her new school’s biggest rival for the very first time.
